Our libraries in North Rhine-Westphalia
A wide range of online databases with a total of over 7,000 eJournals are available to you to optimise your research during your studies. Specifically at the at the Hamm location, there is also an embedded stock of specialised literature in the Hamm municipal central library. This library is located right next to the SRH campus and represents one of the most modern libraries in the area with a large stock of books and online options.
Greatly expanded range of scientific eJournals
The literature databases are all accessible via our campus WLAN and can be used without passwords. Access from home is possible via CITRIX.
The SRH universities have joined the nationwide DEAL agreements under the auspices of the German Rectors' Conference with the largest academic publishers Elsevier, Springer Nature and Wiley. This means that all students and staff have access to the majority of the electronic journals offered by these three publishers (over 7,000 eJournals in total) from summer semester 2024 onward.
The contents of the journals are now available on the publisher platforms and can be searched there:
ScienceDirect
The collection currently includes over 2,500 German and English-language and interdisciplinary journals from the Elsevier publishing house. Please carry out your search first and then narrow it down as required in the left-hand column. The articles marked GREEN are freely available to university members.
Wiley Online Library
The collection currently holds over 1,700 German and English-language and interdisciplinary journals published by Wiley. Please carry out a search first and then restrict to "Journals". Please do not restrict to "Open Access Content". The vast majority of the articles displayed are freely available to university members (symbol: open padlock).
Springer Link
The collection currently includes over 2,300 German and English-language and interdisciplinary journals from Springer-Verlag. Be sure to uncheck the box "Include Preview Only Content" (= paid content)! In the left-hand column, you can restrict your search to eJournal content by selecting the "Article" option, for example; otherwise all licensed content from the university will be displayed.
EBSCO online database
The university has invested in a new online database for literature research. EBSCO is one of the largest providers of printed and electronic journals, periodicals and e-books.
From 1 May 2020 an, you will be able to access "Business Source", one of the most widely used full-text databases in the academic sector for business and economics. In addition to a large number of academic journals, it also contains numerous industry reports and company profiles. This combination, summarised in one source with a standard reference bibliography, provides the basis for optimal research. The database includes:
- More than 1,100 active journals and magazines in full text
- More than 660 active, peer-reviewed journals in full text
- More than 300 active, peer-reviewed journals in full text without embargo
- More than 550 active journals in full text
In addition, more than 21,000 e-books relevant to the subject area "Technology and Business" are available to you.
To help you make the most of the literature database, the university has provided you with detailed instructions for the various research options on the CampusNet platform. In CampusNet you will also find the access link to the database. If you click on this link while you are connected to the university's VPN, you can directly access the content that has been activated for you. Click here to go to CampusNet.
Please note: You can currently only access Ebsco and content select via BYOD WLAN at the university.
Literature research during your studies
You will receive a user card for the library, which is located on the Hamm campus in the same building as the university. This card gives students access to all the facilities and services of the central library. The university's books are labelled "SRH". Online encyclopaedias and databases can also be used free of charge outside the Central Library. To log in, you must enter your 11-digit ID number and your date of birth in the form DD.MM.YYYY. The library offers a wide range of resources:
- The online catalogue
- An international press portal
- The largest English-language online encyclopaedia "Britannica Library"
- The metasearch engine for scientific purposes "Digibib" (https://www.hamm.de/bildung-und-weiterbildung/stadtbuecherei/info-seite/die-digibib-wasist-das.html. This is a collection of sources and database access provided by the NRW-HBZ University Library Centre. It contains catalogues and full-text source collections).
- Another service is the KVK, the Karlsruhe Virtual Catalogue, a meta-catalogue search engine that brings together a wide range of national and international library catalogues under one search interface.
The publications searched for in both portals can be ordered from the library via interlibrary loan. During business hours, the library can also be used for studying or preparing for exams. Free W-LAN and free PC workstations are available. There are individual and group workstations on all floors. In addition, three group rooms can be reserved for three hours a day for groups of at least two people. Only a user ID is required to book an appointment
