About me

Prof. Dr. Dr. Philipp Plugmann has been Professor of Interdisciplinary Periodontology and Prevention in the Bachelor's degree program Dental Hygienist at the Leverkusen campus of the SRH University of Applied Sciences for Health since February 1, 2020.

After studying dentistry at the University of Cologne and passing the state examination in 2000, he completed his doctorate in 2005 at the University Hospital of Cologne in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery while working to set up a practice. In addition, he completed a multi-year doctoral program in medical sciences (grade: very good) at the Private University of the Principality of Liechtenstein (UFL) in 2013 while working.

He holds a Master of Science in Periodontology and Implant Therapy from DGParo (grade 1.6), a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Health Care Management and a Master of Science in Business Innovation. He has published a total of 110 publications in the fields of dentistry, innovation and technology and has edited 16 books in German and English. His first book on future trends in medical technology was reviewed in 2012 by CISCO, a major US technology company. His second book, "Innovationsumgebungen gestalten", published by Springer Gabler Verlag in 2018, had over 100,000 chapter downloads in the first 30 months.

During his 24 years as a dentist, he has also founded 2 companies dealing with prevention and healthcare services, the development of surgical software for dental operations and digital technologies. He has presented research findings on innovations in healthcare at conferences at Harvard University (USA), the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (Munich) and Nanyang Tech University (Singapore), among others. Parallel to his practical work, Prof. Dr. Dr. Philipp Plugmann worked for 12 years at universities in Karlsruhe, Cologne and Bielefeld, where he also supervised and examined master's theses. From 2007 to 2016, he was a lecturer in the field of innovation at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and was recognized by the rector for outstanding teaching.

Since 2013, he has been a Research Fellow at the Marburg University Dental Clinic in the Department of Periodontology, where he has also been recognized for outstanding commitment due to his case reports, lectures and international research presentations.
