Prof. Dr. habil. Marcus Grimm, born on March 4, 1976, has been professor and course director for the bachelor's degree program in nutrition therapy and counseling at Campus Cologne of the SRH University of Health since October 1, 2021.
After graduating from high school (average grade 1.0), he studied biochemistry at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, sponsored by the German National Academic Foundation, and conducted research on the respiratory chain during his diploma thesis (grade very good).
After graduation, he moved to the Center for Molecular Biology (ZMBH) at the Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg for his PhD. During his PhD, he was able to demonstrate the bidirectional interaction between Alzheimer's disease and lipid homeostasis, and the research results were published, among others, in highly cited articles in international high-ranking journals such as Nature Cell Biology. His doctoral thesis was awarded summa cum laude.
During his doctoral studies, he completed the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Allfinanzakademie in cooperation with the University of Wales as a distance learning program and moved to the University of Saarland after completing his doctorate. Here he participated in several multicenter EU-funded studies on the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and habilitated in this field at the medical faculty. His research work was awarded the Research Prize in 2010. During his habilitation, he established a molecular and cell biology research laboratory with an additional focus on analysis of lipids. He will continue this activity when he takes over the professorship, so that the laboratory is available to interested students in cooperation as part of the German Institute for Dementia Prevention.
In addition to his focus on research and university teaching, he is active as a consultant in nutritional counseling and therapy and is involved in the founding of a nutritional counseling center.
In his private life, Prof. Grimm relaxes with his bee colonies and his small flock of sheep and enjoys being out in nature with his dogs.
