About me

Since October 2018, Prof. Dr. Stefanie Duchac is professor in the degree program Speech Therapy (B. Sc.) at the SRH University of Applied Sciences.

After completing her Bachelor of Health (NL) at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Idstein (2006) and gaining initial practical experience, Prof. Dr. Stefanie Duchac moved to the SRH Klinikum Karlsbad in 2007 with a clinical focus on the diagnosis and therapy of swallowing disorders (dysphagia) and tracheal cannula management.

In addition to her clinical work, she was regularly involved in various scientific projects. In 2009, she spent one semester in the research laboratory of Prof. Dr. Maggie-Lee Huckabee at UC Christchurch, New Zealand, as part of the part-time Master's program at HAWK Hildesheim. Since then, she has been actively participating in national and international dysphagia congresses on a regular basis.

With a doctoral scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation, Prof. Dr. Duchac completed her PhD on "Changes in swallowing physiology after ventral and dorsal cervical spine surgery" (Dr. phil., magna cum laude) during parental leave at Bielefeld University (2016).

Prof. Dr. Stefanie Duchac is a reviewer for the international journal "Dysphagia".

One of her main interests is digital media in dysphagia education, she is the German partner of STEP, the Swallowing Training and Education Portal and initiator of www.dysphagie-online.de.

Research focus:

  • Relationship of cervical spine surgery and swallowing disorders (dysphagias).
  • Digital media in education and training in the field of dysphagia
  • Videofluoroscopy of the swallowing act
