Germany's third-largest private university provider bundles its on-campus universities to form SRH University
SRH, one of the largest education and healthcare companies in Germany, is reorganising its university offering: On 1 October 2024, its five face-to-face universities merged to form SRH University of Applied Sciences Heidelberg. SRH is pooling its experience of more than 50 years in this merger with 18 study locations nationwide. Headquarters of theSRH University is in Heidelberg, where the first SRH university was founded in 1969.
In this way, SRH aims to optimise its higher education sector for the future in the international market, both professionally and economically, and to open up new prospects for its students. The locations will be retained and successively expanded, for example in Munich from the summer semester 2025.
"We are giving people access to high-quality education anywhere and at any time. In addition, the merger offers our prospective students maximum flexibility, both digitally and in person," explained Prof Dr Christof Hettich, CEO of SRH Holding. "It also contributes to our goal of doubling the number of our students."
Dr Thorsten Bagschik was appointed Managing Director of SRH University and Prof Dr Victoria Büsch was elected Rector. Both had previously headed the location in Berlin, which moved into a state-of-the-art campus in Berlin-Neukölln at the start of this winter semester. This will be officially opened on 15 November 2024.
Optimum career opportunities and international orientation
With the award-winning teaching and learning principle"CORE" (Competence-Oriented Research and Education), SRH has completely reorganised the university course: Instead of frontal teaching, important skills are learnt in joint projects, with lecturers becoming learning guides. Through small learning groups, individual support and the networking of SRH locations, students develop decisive content-related and personal skills for maximum opportunities in professional life.
Today, 20,000 students from over 140 countries already take advantage of SRH's programmes. From Bachelor's and Master's programmes to doctorates, habilitations and approbations as well as various further education courses, the majority of programmes are offered in both German and English. The "Education made in Germany" seal of quality increases opportunities on the German and global labour market, especially for international students.
Our broad educational programme provides tailor-made and industry-specific solutions for companies. As a strong partner, we bring our students to the companies and the companies to them," added Christian Gerard, Managing Director of the SRH University division.
