Indian ambassador visits SRH: A milestone for international educational cooperation

At the beginning of March 2025, we were delighted to welcome the Ambassador of India, H.E. Ajit Gupte, his wife, Mrs Gupte, and the Science Attaché Dr Banerjee to SRH.

The visit was a significant moment for our university and an important step in promoting academic relations between Germany and India. “The visit of the Indian Ambassador is a key step in further strengthening our ties with India. We see great potential in even closer cooperation that benefits both sides,” emphasized Akos Kiraly, authorized officer of the SRH Higher Education holding company.

The Importance of Indian Students in Germany

A central topic of discussion was the immense importance of Indian students for the German higher education system. Currently, over 50,000 students from India are enrolled in Germany, with a strong upward trend. Notably, SRH welcomes more than 1,000 students from India each year, particularly in the fields of Engineering, IT, and Business. Here, too, a significant increase can be observed. This highlights the growing interest of Indian students who seek to benefit from the quality of German education and the diverse career opportunities it offers.

Cooperation Opportunities and Dual Degrees

Ambassador Gupte encouraged SRH to intensify cooperation with Indian universities and potentially offer dual degree programs. In India, there are not enough university places to accommodate the growing number of students, emphasizing the need for international partnerships and exchange programmes. SRH was therefore invited to expand its collaborations to offer Indian students an even greater variety of educational opportunities.

Considerations for a University Campus in India

Another key aspect of the discussion was the possibility of establishing an SRH presence in India – such as a campus. The Indian education market offers enormous potential for the export of education. A direct presence in India could provide Indian students with even closer access to SRH’s offerings. A central focus of the discussion was creating a win-win situation. The goal was to prevent the so-called “brain drain” – the migration of talent – and instead export German educational programs to India. Through cooperation and knowledge exchange, both countries can benefit in the long term and contribute to a more sustainable global education landscape.

Indian Graduates and the German Job Market

The professional success of Indian graduates in Germany is impressive. They rank among the highest earners in the German job market, with salaries that, in some cases, exceed those of German graduates. This reflects their high qualifications and excellent career prospects in Germany.

Conclusion: A Highly Important Visit

The visit of the Indian Ambassador was of great significance for SRH. With currently over 2,000 students from India, SRH’s university sector serves as an important hub for students from this country. The discussions and ideas exchanged during the visit open up many exciting prospects for the future and further strengthen SRH University’s position as an international institution.
