Excursion to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim: Insights into sports physiotherapy

As part of the compulsory elective module Sports Physiotherapy, seven students on the Bachelor's degree programme in Physiotherapy at SRH University Heidelberg had the opportunity to gain an exclusive insight into the practice of sports physiotherapy at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. They were accompanied by their programme director, Prof. Dr Annika Jahn.

The visit took the group to the TSG rehabilitation centre in Zuzenhausen, where they were welcomed by the head of the centre, Bernd Steinhoff. The excursion focussed on the topic of "Return to Play", a central component of sports physiotherapy work. The students were given both a theoretical introduction and practical insights into the rehabilitation measures that support injured athletes on their way back to competitive sport.

After an introductory presentation on the procedures and strategies in the rehabilitation process, various physiotherapy and sports science measures were demonstrated and discussed. The direct practical relevance was particularly impressive for the participants: they were able to experience modern diagnostic and treatment methods at first hand and engage in dialogue with the experts on site.

The excursion offered the students valuable inspiration for their future careers and impressively demonstrated the role that physiotherapy plays in high-performance sport. The practical presentation of the content enabled them to deepen their theoretical knowledge and gain important insights for their own physiotherapy work.

We would like to thank Bernd Steinhoff and his team for the exciting insights and the opportunity to look over the shoulders of the professionals and look forward to future collaborations. This experience has once again shown how important the exchange between science and practice is for the study of physiotherapy.
