What is Erasmus+?
The Erasmus+ programme is a funding programme by the European Union in the area of education, training, sport and youth. The programme is more than 30 years old. In higher education it promotes the mobility of students, staff and teaching staff within the 34 programme countries and with the new generation from 2021-2027 also international moblities to partner countries are fundable.
What goals does Erasmus+ pursue?
Erasmus+ wants to:
- Strengthen the international competences, personal development and employability of students
- Promote the modernisation, internationalisation and qualitative improvement of higher education in Europe
- Increase the attractiveness of the EU as a place to study and research
- Contribute to the sustainable development of higher education in developing countries
Who is supported?
Erasmus+ consists of three key actions:
- Mobility of individuals
The European Union promotes the academic mobility of students (study abroad and internships abroad) during all study cycles. The mobility of university staff (teaching, further education and training) is also extensively supported. - Partnerships with organisations, institutions and initiatives
An important component of the internationalisation of universities is the development and implementation of joint strategic partnerships and cooperation projects. Erasmus+ offers various instruments and programme lines to support partnerships and cooperation projects. - Policy support
This key action is essentially managed by the European Commission itself and is used, inter alia, to support the Bologna process, to initiate cross-educational cooperation and policy dialogue with third countries.
