A contemporary artistic education as a composer and musician combined with sound engineering and organisational know-how form the core of the study programme of the BA Music Production. From the first semester onwards you will have access to our DAWs and studios. Here you will go through all relevant functions and roles within the music production process.
Weekly workshops on colourful topics of music practice such as songwriting and sound engineering, live panels with experts from the music industry, as well as diverse practical projects in each semester offer plenty of opportunities to try out your skills in front of an audience and expand your network. Teachers from all areas of the live and recording industry will support you on your career path.
After graduating with a B.A. in Music Production, you have the experience and versatility to stand your ground in the fast-moving music market. In the Bachelor's programme in Music Production at SRH University, you will learn everything you need for professional music production. You will develop comprehensive production skills from the basics of recording technology, acoustics and music theory to digital audio technology. You will work with DAWs and sequencers and supplement your knowledge with artistic subjects such as piano and choir. Practical projects, such as the first-semester concert, offer direct insights into the music industry.
You will write and produce your songs in the third semester, from composition to the final mix. You will learn how to realise projects from the music industry and deepen your expertise in sound design, songwriting and music production for media. You will also train your organisational and legal skills to be successful as an author in the music business.
After your practical semester, you will develop your final concert in the sixth semester and complete your studies with a B.A. thesis, which can also include artistic elements.

5The third semester focuses on writing and producing your own songs. From composition to the sound design of the songs, with instrumental musicians or DAW-based, to recording, editing and mixing, you will go through the entire production chain of your music. In addition to your own tracks, you will also produce a song based on briefings from the music industry. In accompanying courses such as stylistics, ear training, harmony and studio practice, urgent questions from the creative process are addressed and solved together. You will also deal with the rights and obligations you have as a musical author.

5In the first semester, you will learn the basics of recording technology, acoustics and applied music theory. Working with DAWs, you will learn the basics of music production step by step. Artistic subsidiary subjects such as piano and choir complement the creative basics. Popular music history, ear training and various practical projects such as the first semester concert are also on your semester programme.

5In addition to harmony theory and musical-technical ear training exercises, you will discover the world of digital audio technology in the second semester. You will familiarise yourself with the functions and workflows of sequencers. Accompanying sound studies, cross-school practical projects and an elective module give you space for musical experiments and learning experiences. You can work on your own musical material and try out playing together with others in both individual lessons in the main artistic subject and in ensemble lessons. The main artistic subject and the ensembles continue into the sixth semester.

5In the sixth semester, you will enter the broad field of scenic and functional music. In the modules on sound design and orchestration, you will learn how to design and use compositional design elements in a targeted manner and produce music for different contexts and media applications. You will familiarise yourself with sound synthesis, sample libraries and other plugins. You will also deal with the basic tools and processes of project organisation in order to be able to plan and carry out artistic live productions independently. Your own final concert in your major artistic subject provides a good opportunity for this.

10Shortly before graduating, you will demonstrate your expertise in the planning, calculation and realisation of a studio production. You will also immerse yourself in the interplay of music and image in the field of film and game music and complete the field of media and stage music with an independent composition. In the area of portfolio development, you will develop your own showreel with individual support and one-to-one tuition. At the end of the programme, you will write your B.A. thesis, which may also include artistic and creative elements.

Playing a musical instrument or singing is a prerequisite for admission to the study programme B.A. Music Production and B.Mus. Popular Music. The following are possible: Vocals, piano, guitar, electric bass, double bass, drums, violin, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, flute.
